Coordinator of Music Ministry – St. Luke Lutheran Church, Albuquerque, N.M.
St Luke Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time Coordinator of Music Ministries to strengthen our vision of being “an inviting and thriving intergenerational congregation and preschool.” Our Christian community loves music and has diverse musical tastes. The Coordinator of Music Ministries will serve as a choir director and coordinator of a variety of musical programs and initiatives. We seek a lively community builder who values and engages talent within the parish and surrounding community.
For use in worship, St. Luke has a Casavant pipe organ, a Steinway grand piano, three additional pianos, a Kawai digital stage piano and hand bells and hand chimes. St. Luke currently has one informal service on Saturday evenings and two more liturgical worship services on Sunday morning.
The successful candidate will be a good steward of the rich Christian musical legacy including traditional organ music, hymns, and choral music in the Lutheran / Protestant tradition. They will also have knowledge and skills in a diversity of music including global, jazz, folk, spirituals, Latin and contemporary hymns and anthems. We would love to have a person who would joyfully expand the musical horizons of our congregation!
Specific duties include:
- Collaborating with pastors and others (including our excellent organist) in planning worship opportunities
- Preparing and directing the choir.
- Supervising and coordinating paid staff, choral scholars, substitutes, contract musicians, volunteers.
- Administering our choral scholars program.
- Planning and tracking a music budget throughout the year.
- Potential additional work as an Early Child Music Teacher with St. Luke Preschool.
Time & Compensation:
Part-time salaried; 20-25 hours per week (varying with season); salary $25,000 – $28,000 commensurate with skill and experience.
Interested candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in music or other equivalent level of certification, keyboard and vocal proficiency; 2-3 years of experience in related music ministry field, audio/visual technology experience desired.

Music Director / Pianist (Albuquerque)
St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church is seeking a part-time Music Director/Pianist. St. Tim’s is a progressive Christian community, with a love of music and eclectic musical taste.
Position is salaried and part time, approximately 10 hours a week, but varies by season. The Music Director/Pianist will collaborate in planning the musical experience for the congregation, direct and accompany the choir in rehearsals and worship services, play the piano for the Sunday services and other festival worship services (e.g., Christmas, Easter), and communicate with appropriate community members to ensure that music information is available for printing or posting. The community is currently transitioning out of pandemic restrictions, and has reintroduced both choir and congregational singing during the services while continuing Covid-safe practices.
Salary starts at $15,000 and includes paid time off. The position requires work on site for worship services and choir practice, primarily Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings, but other responsibilities can be scheduled at the discretion of the Music Director/Pianist. Preferred skills include familiarity with, and ability to play, a variety of styles of music for worship, from traditional through contemporary; experience leading a choir or vocal group; and ability to coordinate a variety of musicians for the weekly service.
