First Congregational United Church of Christ in Albuquerque is looking for a new accompanist, to begin work on June 1, 2020, or when the position is filled.
Our church is very involved in issues of social and environmental justice. We are a friendly, growing church with lots of activities for all ages. The music program includes an adult choir of about 20 people, a bell choir, and guest musicians throughout the year. We have a 3- manual, 25-rank Reuter pipe organ, a Weinbach baby grand piano, and an extensive library of organ sheet music. We use hymns and service music from a variety of sources, including our denominational hymnal, Taizé, MMC, and the Convergence Music Project.
The accompanist will play for Sunday services (we have a single service), choir rehearsals on Sunday morning, and special services. Bimonthly meetings with the pastor and music director help us plan worship. The base salary is $11,000 per year. Ability to play the organ is a plus, and salary would be adjusted accordingly.
Candidates must demonstrate strong keyboard skills in performance and sight-reading in a variety of styles. Candidates should have experience in leading congregational singing from the keyboard, in choral accompanying and in collaborating with both conductors and individual musicians.
We are looking for an accompanist who:
- has the ability and desire to play in a variety of styles (gospel, calypso, jazz, classical, etc.)
- is a flexible professional with strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.
- enjoys collaborating with other musicians and has musical contacts within the Albuquerque community
- can improvise at the keyboard when needed
We encourage interested musicians to attend our worship service (10:30 AM) and see if our church would be a good fit. Applicants should send a resumé to Ruth Striegel, Director of Music, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Ruth may also be contacted by phone/text at 505-249-0083. The church is located at 2801 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque 87106 (on the corner of Lomas and Girard near UNM.)
